One important thing I must tell you regarding Bohr.
As a docent at the University of Copenhagen, one of his duties was to teach physics to medical students.
Bohr disliked teaching physics to medical students (which I think reflects on the attitude of medical students to anything to do with physics or mathematics;
Their brains simply shut down).
After the first world war, Bohr campaigned hard to establish an Institute of Theoretical Physics in Denmark.
And by 1921, the institute was open for admissions with Niels Bohr as its director.
Just imagine, just few years in a war torn Europe and post epidemic of Spanish flu, it took just 4 years to establish an institute of theoretical physics!
(Compare this with any third world country of today and it will seem like a miracle!)
Bohr liked the place so much that he actually moved in with his family to live in the first floor of the institute.
This place became the center of pioneering work in the field of quantum mechanics in much of the 1920s and 1930s.
1940s of course would be Apocalypse of Europe thanks to the madness and annihilation of the second world war.
At a remarkably young age of 37 in the year of 1922, Bohr was fortunate enough to be recognized by winning the Nobel in physics.
This award was in recognition of his Trilogy and his contribution to the emerging field of quantum mechanics.
In the Nobel lecture, Bohr mesmerized the congregation with an exhaustive analysis of the known structure of atom.
Yet, fundamental physics in 1920s and 1930s was undergoing through a revolutionary transformation.
Even Bohr knew that his model worked well for hydrogen but failed to explain the phenomena exhibited by the heavier elements.
In fact, Bohr collaborated with many of the great minds of particle physics specially after his winning the Nobel Prize and founding of his institution of theoretical physics.
