Today spoke with both Faiz Merchant and Inspector Deshmukh.
Bedtime Story
Put your finger in front of your eyes.
Close one eye. Then the other.
Do it alternatively and rapidly.
You will notice your finger moving or shifting against the background.
This is the parallax effect which is defined as the apparent shift or displacement of an object when viewed along 2 different lines of sight.
The word parallax comes from the Greek word for alteration.
Now you can make a right angle triangle by joining your baseline which is the 2 places from where you are viewing the object and then joining the ends of this line with the object under observation.
The angle formed at the viewed object is the parallax angle.
Using simple trigonometric functions such as sine, cosine or tangent, you can derive the other sides of the triangle.
Which would give you the distance between the observer and the object.
In the cosmic distance ladder or the extragalactic distance scale, this is the first method that was devised by us apes (rare smart ones that is), to measure how far some stars were away from us as they gazed up the sky.

Good night mon ami and my fellow cousin ape.
